Bishop Tona Taylor
My Journey of Faith
My journey began in 1977, during one of the most difficult seasons of my life. I was a young widow, raising my daughters alone, and their safety was always on my heart. I constantly cried out to God with my fears and worries. In a moment of deep surrender, I made Him a promise: “Lord, if You take care of my children, I will serve You for the rest of my life.”
That same year, while watching the 700 Club, I gave my life fully to Christ—and I’ve been serving Him ever since.
It took time to find a church home, but after visiting many congregations, I found a place to belong at Evangelistic Outreach Center (formerly Green Pastures) in Oakland, CA, under the leadership of the late Bishop Mack Eastman. That church became my family, and Bishop Eastman became my spiritual father.
As I grew in faith, I began traveling with the church to Los Angeles for revivals. God’s presence moved powerfully, and people were filled with joy and hope. But I noticed something that troubled me—many had no church home. My heart ached for them because I knew how important it is to have a spiritual covering and community. I shared my concern with Bishop Eastman, and with his blessing, I went to Los Angeles to start a satellite church.
I served as an interim pastor for several years, all while working full-time in a corporate job. Eventually, I was fully ordained as a Pastor—and later, by God’s grace and leading, elevated into the office of Bishop.
